The 2nd anniversary of the Uvalde mass murder.
Two years ago, yesterday, 19 children and 2 teachers were murdered in Uvalde, Texas. 17 others were shot but recovered.
Families of the Uvalde shooting victims sued Meta, the social media company, Activision — the maker of the popular video game "Call of Duty" — and Daniel Defense, the manufacturer of the AR-15 which the teen gunman used in the shooting.
The wrongful death lawsuits come just two days after the same group of 19 families reached a $2 million settlement with the city of Uvalde over the May 24, 2022, Robb Elementary School massacre. . .(CBS News)

George Floyd’s life matters 4 years later.
Today is the 4th anniversary of the murder of George Floyd. Derek Chauvin, one of four police officers who arrived on the scene, knelt on Floyd's neck and back for 9 minutes and 29 seconds.
George Floyd’s dying words, “I can’t breathe” became a national and worldwide rallying slogan.
Chauvin was tried and convicted for the murder of George Floyd. A 12-member jury found him guilty of unintentional second-degree murder, third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter. It was the first conviction of a white police officer in Minnesota for the murder of a black person.

And so it goes this Memorial Day weekend.
As the weekend began, I had planned much needed days of rest from the news. But I returned today because I felt it necessary to honor the dead of Uvalde and George Floyd, as well as those who died to protect this Democracy.
Now, my plan once again is to return on Tuesday, awaiting closing arguments in the Trump criminal trial in New York that day.
See you then.
Annette
