The Biden reaction.
Biden campaign reacts to Trump conviction: "No one is above the law.”
Moments after Donald Trump became the first former president to be criminally convicted, the Biden campaign issued a statement warning that he will still be the Republican nominee for president.
Why it matters: Trump and President Biden both agree — the unanimous New York verdict does not change the reality that voters will decide the outcome of November's election.
Michael Tyler, the Biden campaign's communications director, wrote in a statement:
"In New York today, we saw that no one is above the law.
"Donald Trump has always mistakenly believed he would never face consequences for breaking the law for his own personal gain. But today's verdict does not change the fact that the American people face a simple reality. There is still only one way to keep Donald Trump out of the Oval Office: at the ballot box. Convicted felon or not, Trump will be the Republican nominee for president.
"The threat Trump poses to our democracy has never been greater. He is running an increasingly unhinged campaign of revenge and retribution, pledging to be a dictator 'on day one' and calling for our Constitution to be 'terminated' so he can regain and keep power. A second Trump term means chaos, ripping away Americans' freedoms and fomenting political violence — and the American people will reject it this November." (Axios)

Some kissed the ring.
Sample GOP Trump supporters.
Senator Susan Collins.
The case in New York against President Trump has never been about justice. Democrats are weaponizing the justice system against a political opponent.

Elections are decided in voting booths, not courtrooms.
President Trump will keep fighting to get America back on track.

These charges never should have been brought in the first place. I expect the conviction to be overturned on appeal.

Others spoke up too.
You probably heard many. Add these two.

Robert De Niro Celebrates Trump’s Conviction: ‘This Is My Country. This Guy Wants to Destroy It.’
Robert De Niro didn’t hold back when he was asked about Donald Trump‘s guilty verdict in the Stormy Daniels hush money case Thursday.
“I think justice was served,” he said on the carpet for his new movie “Ezra.” “This is just one part of the whole picture, so I want to be very careful.” Though at first he was reticent to expand on his thoughts, he then continued to open up about Trump’s conviction.
“I would think it would,” he said when asked if he thought it could affect the presidential election.
“This never should have gotten to this stage,” he continued, “I don’t want to be talking, but I am so upset by it. I have to say something. This is my country. This guy wants to destroy it. Period. He’s crazy.”
When asked if he ever fears for his safety, De Niro admitted he does. “You think about that. It makes me more angry, but I have to be afraid to be intimidated. And that’s why I said, you’re not going to intimidate us.(Variety)

As Hillary asked yesterday, “Anything going on today?”
Musings on the first Trump guilty verdicts by Annette Niemtzow.
Yesterday’s verdict against Trump has been broadly praised as proof that our legal system held. That pride is understandable but it also obscures other issues raised by the Trump convictions.
First, most Americans do not yet understand what crime Trump committed.
They think he was found guilty of paying hush money to a porn star.
He was found guilty of fraudulent acts that interfered with the 2016 election.
As Josh Steinglass, providing the closing argument for the prosecution, said, Trump squashed information that the American voter had the right to know. He hoodwinked the American voter by hiding information that might have cost him the 2016 election.
Donald Trump cheated to win the 2016 election.
Take it in. A jury of 12 ordinary citizens unanimously found Trump guilty.
Do you know how hard it is to get 12 people to agree unanimously?
This happened.
Who will now declare Trump an illegitimate president?
In a list of Presidents, his name should always have an asterisk next to it.
These crimes he was found guilty of were crimes against our right as citizens to make informed decisions. These crimes were crimes against Democracy itself.
Moreover, these crimes Trump committed are part of a pattern of his attacks on Democracy - provoking and leading an insurrection to stop the orderly transfer of power, stealing documents and secrets from America, attacking the values and validity of American institutions and Democracy itself.
As George Conway points out, Total contempt for the law and the legal process. Literally held in contempt ten times. Attacks on witnesses and jurors.
Spread the word. May 30, 2024 is a day forever etched in history. A former “president” committed crimes against our nation and was finally declared guilty of these.
Now it is up to us. Let’s defeat the felon.

Sentencing on July 11th.
Four days before the Republican Convention which is currently expected to nominate Trump for the Presidency.
Trump will appeal these convictions but there is little chance he will win an appeal.
This is a New York case. Even if elected to the Oval Office, Trump won’t be able to pardon himself.
