So Many Shoots+More Island Exploration
Been going full speed since the last newsletter. I'm going to do another day by day breakdown because that's all I can manage.
THURSDAY
I drove out to the Tamworth, New Hampshire area to photograph Liz+Ben for their engagement photos. We were supposed to climb a mountain because they are rugged, outdoorsy people (a week before the shoot they were in Alaska where they were basically wrestling bears) but it was supposed to rain all day so I suggested Chocorua Lake, close to where they were staying. Of course it was actually bright and sunny all day so whatever (this will be an ongoing theme). Before the shoot I saw the biggest, scariest snake I've ever seen, either a northern water snake or a timber rattle snake. I didn't get a picture because I was too busy getting tf out of there.
SATURDAY
Then on Saturday I headed out to New Gloucester, Maine to shoot Sarah+Sam's wedding. Again, the forecast said rain all day but it was nothing but aggressive sun light all day. This wedding was fun because there were a lot of emotions going around. Everyone repeatedly insisted "I'm not like this, I'm not an emotional person!" before absolutely breaking down. I love it. I did my best to tell everyone that it's okay, emotions are good, marriage opens up new dimensions of emotion so these tears are just the start of it. I repeatedly told people not to fight it, just to let it happen and to ride the wave. The happy tears are just a pathway to gratitude, a good place to be.
MONDAY
Monday was the day before the 3rd of July and I think because of all this crazy weather business my area wasn't as overrun with tourists as it normally is on a summer holiday. This made my engagement session with Maria+Paul much easier than I expected. The highlight of this shoot was the inclusion of their beloved 20 SIDED DIE.
WEDNESDAY
After a lazy 4th of July I woke up crazy early on the 5th and drove up to Rockland to hop on a ferry to head to the island of Vinalhaven to shoot Olivia+Will's engagement photos. Again, the forecast was completely wrong. It was supposed to be cloudy and in the lower-60s on the island so I didn't bring sun block and had a dumb jacket with me. Instead, the early morning ferry ride was foggy and beautiful. Not spooky foggy but SUNNY FOGGY.
The shoot was fun, but again, not the weather we were supposed to have. The fog burned off so it was just hot and sunny and I got a pretty intense sunburn. Wamp wamp. Check out Olivia's custom wedding jacket.
After the shoot I took the ferry back to Rockland and headed straight to The Center for Maine Contemporary Arts, an art center I am a proud, card carrying artist-member of. I saw some cool art work, spent a stupid amount of money in the gift shop, but unfortunately I missed John Waters who visited the center just a week ago.
I'm about to head out to shoot ANOTHER engagement session. No weddings this weekend, just a fancy anniversary dinner with my old lady (10 YEARS!). Next week I think I'll share some more film I need to get developed. Looking forward to a little bit of a break. PHEW.
