It Finally Happened

Yes, it finally happened. After two and a half years and over 70 weddings photographed during the pandemic I finally caught Covid. The timing was of course terrible, being at the beginning of the fall rush and on my daughter's first day back to school. I tested positive and before I could even process it I had to spend two hours frantically searching for a replacement shooter for the fancy Cape Cod wedding I was booked for that weekend and rescheduling or cancelling half a dozen other shoots I had coming up. Then I just sat around quarantining in my room for a long time. The rest of the family eventually came down with it but didn't show symptoms or test positive until I was 8 days into my quarantine. Luckily none of us got hit very hard with symptoms. I probably lucked out the best. I had one single day with a mild fever and and headache and then I felt totally fine. I caught up on editing and I watched a lot of movies. Maybe too many movies. I have nothing to recommend. I watched so many movies I might not like movies anymore. Whoops.

Anyway, I am all better. I'm loving these antibodies. I got back to work this past weekend with three days in a row a shoots. On Friday I shot a cute little proposal at Spring Point Ledge Lighthouse, then I headed back to Peaks Island for a wedding with second shooter Nate on Saturday, then out to Waterville Valley in The White Mountains of New Hampshire on Sunday for another wedding. It was a lot! I felt a little rusty but I got through it and had a lot of fun at all of the shoots.

First the proposal was nice and easy. I love Spring Point Ledge Lighthouse because it's nice to take a break from shooting at it's rival, Portland Head Light. There are less people, free parking, and you really can't beat that jetty. I love a good jetty.

On Saturday I headed out on the ferry with Nate, who was recovering from seeing Rammstein the night before to head to The Trefethen-Evergreen Improvement Association Center. It was a gorgeous venue and the wedding was a lot of fun.

Then on Sunday I solo-shot a wedding at The Waterville Valley Resort. Also a nice venue. Everything about this wedding was so warm and welcoming. I knew the couple because we had done an engagement session just a few months earlier, I got along really well with the families and wedding parties, worked well alongside the videography team, and also got to hang out with a couple I photographed last year who are both on the staff of the venue. There was good vibes and high fives all over the place. The groom I shot last year who runs the kitchen saw that I was on the vendor list for this wedding and planned a special vegan meal just for me. It was such a great gesture.

This wedding was unique and quite emotional because the bride and her family are from Ukraine, and she bought her wedding dress in Ukraine just weeks before the war started. It was a beautiful dress, probably the best wedding dress I've seen all year, even without the emotions attached to it. The evening was great, there was plenty of traditional Ukrainian dancing and customs. I felt energized even though I was running on fumes by the end of the night.

I have a private ceremony tonight, a fun Summer Camp wedding on Saturday, an engagement session at Arnold Arboretum in Boston on Sunday, and a portrait shoot for a seniors dating site on Monday. WISH ME LUCK.
