Found Some Snow

Well, it's not summer any more. It's finally consistently cold and this past week I shot a small wedding at Maine's premiere (but still pretty humble) ski area called Sunday River. The town is called Newry, and I've shot summer weddings there before. It's a real ghost town in the summer so it was fun to see it with a little bit of life and a lot of snow.

The wedding was at this famous bridge. The ceremony was quaint. The groom's family is from Ireland and the bride's family is from Georgia, so there were some serious accents going on. The officiant was well-known soccer star but Google has failed me in figuring out who it is.

I'm finding it a little hard to adjust to cold weather portrait work. There's a little less freedom and I need to provide a lot more energy to keep the subjects engaged and not looking miserable. I have had some requests for engagement sessions in the next weeks and I ask all of the prospective clients if we can shoot indoors and none of them say yes. I'd love to do a nice, cozy, warm session indoors.

One of these engagement sessions was on Saturday in Gorham. Despite the cold I felt ambitious thanks to my general work-load lightening. I broke out my new gigantic Godox 65 inch Parabolic Umbrella for some epic sunset pictures. Of course, I spent more time taking test/process shots than I did at the actual shoot.

Also on Saturday I did some pretty straight forward birthday portraits for a 1 year old. Definitely out of my comfort zone but I love a challenge. Again, I don't post pictures of other people's kids but here's a photo of me reflected in the kid's eyeball.

It's fun to share process/behind the scenes picrures but I need to go on a real adventure soon to spice this newsletter up. Where should I go?

On a side note, this whole week my editing sessions have been soundtracked almost exclusively by this video of Catalyst Quartet's beautiful version of Philip Glass's String Quartet No. 3 VI from Mishima.

I hope everyone has a nice holiday. Eat up but pace yourselves!
