Back to Work

Happy New Year! I got to close out the year with two nice shoots and now I'm back in the "chill zone." On Friday I did a portrait session at Jagolinzer Preserve in Limington, Maine, home to a really nice little waterfall. Faithful readers will remember that this is the spot where I slipped and fell and annihilated my tailbone last summer. Winter conditions make it much more slippery and dangerous so I was pretty stressed the while time. The shoot went fine though and I didn't hurt or embarrass myself at all. The subject was Suzanne, an emergency veterinarian from The Netherlands. She wore a really nice Norwegian-style sweater that her mom knit. We bonded over our appreciation for Norwegian sweaters.

Then on New Years Eve I shot my (obviously) last wedding of the year. As someone who hasn't actually been to a real NYE party in many years it was a fun way to celebrate. I partied with a bunch of strangers and made it home by 10:30pm. I always ask wedding DJs I work with if they think that the wedding's crowd will go big on the dance floor or not and I'm almost always wrong. The DJs are only a little bit better than me at predicting. At this wedding the DJ and I agreed that this particular crowd would be mellow because there were a lot of kids in attendance and also because people would be saving their energy for the after-party/ball dropping. We were totally wrong. These guys went nuts. Every dance floor is made better by goofballs and this wedding had a ton. Also the father of the bride was deaf so the ceremony and reception had two amazing asl interpreters. Weddings have A LOT of off-the-cuff talking so these ladies really had their work cut out for them. Hats off to all interpreters.

Lots of country music
There was an abundance of donuts on the dance floor
Now it's back to the slow season. I don't have a proper assignment booked until March. I have recently purchased two "fun" cameras to try out to keep myself busy and for sharing on here. I'll need to go on some adventures to test them out. I will keep you posted.
Also, RIP to a bunch of beloved musicians this week. Jeremiah Green, who played drums like a snake with arms and a lot of soul, Gangsta Boo, who was so influential and further proof that Three 6 Mafia is more important than The Beatles, and Anita Pointer from The Pointer Sisters. When I was about 6 years old my top 5 favorite songs of all time were the first 5 songs on the full-length We Are The World album. Track 3 was "Just a Little Closer" by The Pointer Sisters and I loved it. It was maybe the first "hard" synth track I ever heard and liked. I'm thinking on naming one of the new cameras I bought, a Mamiya RB67 Anita after our fallen Pointer angel.
See you next week.
