It’s September!

August passed quietly for me. The first couple weeks felt like a reasonable period of recuperation after the chaos of SDCC, and in the second half I started to feel antsier as the end of the year creeps up.

With creative projects there’s often a disconnect between what you’re working on and what people see. Sometimes you have exciting stuff in the works that you can’t talk about yet, and fortunately I do have a couple projects of that nature on the horizon.

But conversely, sometimes you’re just flailing around in the dark and it feels strangely isolating because nobody’s around to see the plans that fall through or don’t work out for one reason or another.

I guess that’s not such a bad thing. It’s probably for the best that my work isn’t on anyone else’s radar while I’m trying to get them off the ground.

But it just feels weird to me sometimes that I’m objectively doing decently well while simultaneously I’m striking out all the time.

I think that’s just how it goes for creative pursuits though. You spend most of your time failing, and celebrate your wins when they come, as best as you can, while you try to hold out for the next one.

I don’t know, I haven’t really had any epiphanies about any of this and so I don’t have much advice to offer anyone else. But since this is my little corner of the internet where I talk about how I’m doing, I’ll just say I’m usually scared and stressed but doing what I can to write and create and connect with others.

It’s okay if August was a slower month. Not every month has to be a huge step forward. I guess realistically only a few months can be.

In the coming months, I’ll be getting out there a bit more, with Rose City Comic Con coming up next week, and then New York Comic Con in October.

And in the meantime, I’ll be working on the eternal pile of various projects too. Hoping to share more soon!
