The Totient Star: A symbol of aspiration

Secure simulations offer opportunities for experimentation and liberty

Dragonsphere Report

So, you may have noticed that I’m using a novel symbol for the icon for this blog. The symbol is actually a combination of two other fairly established symbols: The Totient function symbol, and the Chaosphere of Peter. J Carroll.

Since this symbol is of my own making, I decided I would explain, or at least highlight in the broadest possible terms some of it’s intended associations:

  • Encrypted artificial worlds

  • Encrypted consciousness

  • Patchwork or archipelago of artificial worlds

  • Artificial metaphysics

  • The broadest possible commitment to liberty or something like it

These are mostly sci fi or similarly nascent concepts and not well defined at present, but since they are liable to become well defined in the future, perhaps even within our lifetimes, it makes sense to stake out symbolic and conceptual territory.

Of course, I can’t define entirely how a symbol will ultimately end up being used, but as long as you’re working in this general spirit it’s fine. I don’t own it. I hope it becomes a Schelling point of some sort for a confluence of technologies and values I consider important.

Thus ends another Dragonsphere Report
