The Power of Music and the Noise of Power
A truly amazing concert last night at Lincoln Center.
4 minute sample.
First, the Rajasthani folk group SAZ. Next, Vinayakram family — featuring legendary percussionist Vidwan T. H. Vinayakram. The Vinayakram family present Parampara, a percussive and yet, highly meditative and trance-like Carnatic music set. Ghatam or the clay pot, one of the most ancient percussion instruments of India, takes center stage as "Vikku ji" performs with his sons and grandchildren, exemplifying the remarkable, continuing legacy of masterful musicianship.
32 Variations on an Original Theme in C minor — a composition for solo piano, written in 1806. A current favorite of mine by Ludwig van Beethoven, played here by Glenn Gould.
“Music is a higher revelation than all wisdom and philosophy. Music is the electrical soil in which the spirit lives, thinks and invents.” — Ludwig van Beethoven
Meanwhile in the World Outside . . . the Distorted Noise of Power!
For days I have been disgusted with so many pundits and members of the donor class, who while proposing that somnambulist Joe Biden drop out, choose to preface their statements by saying what a good and decent man he is.
I was delighted to find Glenn Greenwald address just this insane rhetoric.
Whether you remember the ongoing list of vile things this monster has been responsible for over decades, just need a memory refresher, or have somehow managed to ignore his record (perhaps due to a fever from the VoteBlueNoMatterWhat virus) here’s a look at this good and decent man.
Watch it here . . .
