Forever Young, Getting Old, & Eye/Brain Candy
The most beautiful words in the English language are not, “I love you.” They're “It's benign.”
—Woody Allen
After weeks of concern and a biopsy the day before her 67th birthday, these words were delivered to my partner in life/art this past week. Much anxiety has been swept out the door.
Onward senior citizens, dancing towards the next health dilemma.
Instead of giving Hollywood your money to see some lame actor imitate Bob Dylan in a “biopic” — I offer you two brilliant bookends from his career — a poem from when he was 21 years old, the other a song from 4 years ago, when he was 79.

Or his sculptures. His paintings. Or his bourbon.

“There is a wealth of information built into us…tucked away in the genetic material in every one of our cells…without some means of access, there is no way even to begin to guess at the extent and quality of what is there. The psychedelic drugs allow exploration of this interior world and insights into its nature.” – Alexander Shulgin

Terence McKenna —
“Psychedelics are illegal not because a loving government is concerned that you may jump out of a third story window. Psychedelics are illegal because they dissolve opinion structures and culturally laid down models of behaviour and information processing. They open you up to the possibility that everything you know is wrong.”
“I think of going to the Grave without having a Psychedelic Experience is like going to the Grave without ever having Sex. It means that you never Figured out what it is all about. The Mystery is in the Body and the way the Body Works itself into Nature.”
Aldous Huxley, The Doors of Perception —
“The man who comes back through the Door in the Wall will never be quite the same as the man who went out. He will be wiser but less sure, happier but less self-satisfied, humbler in acknowledging his ignorance yet better equipped to understand the relationship of words to things, of systematic reasoning to the unfathomable mystery which he tries, forever vainly, to comprehend.”
