I wrote a piece a few years ago — a brief sketch of a ride of the subway.
I recently looked at it, found it seriously wanting, so I hopped on the subway again and rewrote it.

New York Yankees. We’ve actually watched a couple baseball games at home recently. I found a place to download days-old games and so, well, the Anomalous Duo are now Yankees fans.
Having grown up in New York City in the 1950s and 60s I’d have joined Teresa Brewer in singing “I Love Mickey”.
And yes, we get to fast-forward through the singing of God Bless America in the middle of the seventh inning.
(Painful to watch thousands lockstep hands-on-heart, caps off, mouthing the lyrics!)
That vile bit of religious nationalism was added after 9/11 so that “Americans” can wallow in victimhood and thus ignore the militaristic death their country was and is spreading around the world.
God Bless America = imaginary being please anoint everything within our geographical borders. Bah!
