1st Quarterly Edition of TBBB with Aera
"Covid-safe provider spotlight, mutual aid updates, and missed blog articles in our 1st Quarterly Bulletin!"
Hot off the Press into your inbox, the 1st Quarterly Edition of the Better Baseline Bulletin is here!
There’s only 4 in a year, and our first Quarterly Edition is kicking it all off with a Covid Safe Provider Spotlight! Stick around afterwards for news about Mutual Aid Efforts through my practice, and an article (or two!) that you may have missed from my blog!
Let’s get this party started:

Our first Covid Safe Provider Spotlight is for our local Covid-Safe Naturalpath Dr Jill Corey, who runs their practice Transformative Healthcare in Capitol Hill! Before we get into the interview, I want to share my personal experience with this provider. Dr. Corey is an evidence-based Naturalpathic Doctor who did their program at Bastyr. They received their nutritional education under my Dietician Kelly Morrow, and have made a commitment to the Covid Safe and Queer Communities with their exceptional care.
For transparency, this spotlight may be a bit biased because I personally see this doctor, and I refer my clients to this doctor. I am so picky about the providers I choose to refer to, and I wouldn’t be expanding my working hours if it were not for the care & attention to detail this doctor provides me!
I enjoy collaborating with them as well for comprehensive patient care, providing them with my Health Coaching Plans and suggestions. Dr Corey has been a powerhouse of support for me with our shared patients, and I am truly grateful for our shared passions!
Dr. Corey not only provides competent care for patients with Long Covid or MCAS, but they also support patients with their transitions. I have found them to be curious, collaborative, and not at all interested in gatekeeping! They are wise, ethical, and ensure that all bases are covered. I want to thank Dr Corey on behalf of myself and our shared clients for their commitment to accessibility by continuing to provide telehealth services and wearing a respirator during all in person visits!
Now, for the interview:
Aera: Hi Dr Corey! Thanks for taking the time to do this e-mail interview. This is for our first quarterly edition of The Better Baseline Bulletin! Thank you for agreeing to this interview and for allowing me to put you under the spotlight!
Our first question here is What inspires your commitment to providing accessible care to our community?
Dr. Corey: Patients that are COVID conscious often have difficulty finding providers that understand how COVID can impact their chronic illness or the health of their loved ones. I provide remote and safe in person options for my patients that deal with these concerns. It can be difficult navigating this in the medical field as these patients are often faced with judgement for being cautious. I aim to provide a judgment free space around this issue and try to be as supportive as possible.
Aera: What are the ways in which you practice community care outside of your role as a care provider? (This can look like masking in public spaces, regular testing before family gatherings etc).
Dr. Corey: I mask in public spaces, do home tests anytime I feel something is off, get up to date vaccinations and mostly work from home with my doggie.
Aera: What is your favorite method to reduce the risk of spreading airborne disease?
Dr. Corey: Wearing N95 masks in public and getting yearly COVID and flu vaccines.
Aera: You've been selected for this spotlight because you have cared for many of us in the Covid Aware community, and provide exceptional care - what would you like those that do not know about your practice to know?
Dr. Corey: I aim to provide a welcoming space for all persons. I take time to listen to the patient’s needs and try to come up with a tailored plan that would best fit their needs.
Aera: Last question! Let's make it fun: tell us something about you that gives us a glimmer into who you are when you leave the treatment room! It can be anything, favorite food, what movie you like, or your favorite childhood book series!
Dr. Corey: I am currently enjoying being in touch with my nurturing side in these trying times. I love taking care of my dog. I have started two aquariums in the last 4 months. One with a betta fish and the other with small shrimp. I have also been befriending the crows in my neighborhood with peanuts. These are small things that have been bringing me joy in life when it is so hard to find right now.
If you would like to see them for your care, Dr Corey takes the following insurances in their capitol hill practice: Regence, Premera, BCBS, Anthem, Kaiser PPO (not HMO), First choice, Lifewise and Aetna
I hope you enjoyed this spotlight! Forward this to someone who would like to read about Dr Corey!

An Update about Mutual Aid Efforts:
Thank you to my supporters, especially to my ongoing monthly supporters on Ko-Fi! You have made it possible for me to help even more people! In this first quarter, I have helped about 4 more people for $0 and sliding scale services. I would like to do more, as people have not been taking advantage of this, so please make sure you’re telling people about these offerings available!
That said, I am personally taking care of several people in various ways outside of my practice, including people in our community that I am hosting on my linktree in hopes that they can get their needs met. I have my hands very full outside of working hours with direct action mutual aid, health advocacy (including free health coaching, free strategy plan building etc). I’m also now working on some big health levers with medications adjustments that should increase my quality of life!
Better Living through Better Biochemistry as they (well maybe just me) say….
