In January Valeri Polyakov completed 366 days aboard the Mir space station, the longest anyone had lived off the earth to that point. He would go home in March after 438 days in space.

Also in March the Aum Shinrikyo killed 14 people and injured over 1000 when they released sarin gas in the Tokyo subway system. SO NOT CHILL.
