Documentary Corner - 1953's "Statues Also Die"
A podcast about the great movie years.
I mentioned this fantastic documentary in the episode as my favorite movie of 1953, so I thought I’d make it easy on everyone and link it in the Substack. I can also get into some of the details of production here that might feel a tad indulgent at the end of the episode.
The film was directed by Alain Renais, who would go on to direct Hiroshima Mon Amour, and Chris Marker, the director of La Jateé. They were joined by Ghislain Cloquet, who shot a bunch of movies with Bresson later. Lunatics to a man, only good at one thing, but that one thing is making movies and Statues Also Die is the proof.
