The Tom Hanks Effect; Hitting the road; Book #2000 shipped
June 21, 2025
What. A. Spring.
Well, this has been one of my crazier springs in recent memory – possibly ever. My day job has kept me busy, scorebook orders went positively bonkers – more on that in a sec – and my Tigers have the best record in baseball.
The Tom Hanks Effect
Ever since Shohei hit his Opening Day home run against my Tigers, scorebook makers like myself found themselves suddenly overwhelmed by orders. Why?
While Shohei was rounding the bases, they cut to Tom Hanks celebrating in the crowd while holding a spiral bound notebook. He's a scorekeeper! Apparently lots of folks asked Hanks what was up with the notebook, and he posted his hand-drawn scorecard of the game on Instagram.

That moment triggered a ton of people to start hunting for scorebooks. My orders went crazy – it was starting to become a problem, as I couldn't get anything else done. Sorry clients, people need their books!
It's only started slowing down in the last few days. One hell of a lightning strike, I guess...
Hitting the road
I’ll be hitting some ballgames in the coming weeks. VERY excited to cross two “crown jewel” stadiums off my list at the end of July.
Saturday, June 28 @ Comerica Park – Twins at Tigers
Friday, July 25 @ Busch Stadium – Padres at Cardinals
Saturday, July 26 @ Kaufmann Stadium – Guardians at Royals
If you’re anywhere close, give me a shout and let’s meet up. I’ll bring gifts. And you locals can show me where the best food is, heh.
Book #2000 shipped
My standard line is “I never thought I’d sell 50”, but that’s not completely true. That being said, if you told me I would have sold 2000 of these things when I started, I definitely would have given you the side eye.

Very little promotion. Very little social media posting. No paid advertising. It’s all been word-of-mouth – I owe you all a big giant “thank you” for spreading the word, sharing your pics, and sharing your stories. It’s been a riot.
More fun stuff coming. I’m working on expanding the offerings – art prints, a pocket-sized scorebook, pins – who knows? None of these is likely to be as popular as the scorebooks, but I’m sticking with my philosophy: “make stuff you like, and maybe others will like it to.”
Bring on the summer,
— Eric
