Every Republican Just Voted to Cut Medicaid
Late Tuesday night Republicans passed a budget bill to the House floor that would further escalate their war on the middle class. Every* Republican voted for it. The bill contains social safety net cuts including reductions to Medicaid and SNAP, programs that subsidize healthcare and food for people who cannot afford it.
Why would they cut these popular programs that are used widely even in Republican-majority states? Tax cuts for billionaires. Even after ruining their reputations by cutting more than $1 trillion in Medicaid and SNAP, the total “savings” doesn't even get close to covering the $4.5 trillion in planned tax cuts for the richest Americans.
Tell your Reps what you think about their vote to cut Medicaid and SNAP
Here’s why this is important: Medicaid and SNAP are trials for further social program cuts. If this passes as-is, they’ll almost certainly look at Medicare and Social Security as the next pool of money they can turn into donations to billionaires.
* Technically Thomas Massie (R-KY) voted No but only because he doesn’t think the cuts go far enough so… he counts as a yes.
