31 Days of Halloween: October 4
Good afternoon creeps and crawlies,
The first visit to the pumpkin patch was a resounding success! I didn’t manage to get a cute pic (this may be a running theme this year; we’ll see), but we did pick up a bunch of ‘heritage’ pumpkins (i.e., the weird ones), so the month is off to a great start as far as I’m concerned.
I’m naming the big one Harold. We’ll see if the squirrels leave Harold and his friends alone.
It’s definitely pumpkin season in Oregon—the winner of the National Pumpkin Weigh-Off, a 2,453 pound (1112.6 kg) behemoth named “Hank the Tank”, was grown here.
By the way, a huge thank you to several readers who informed me that the skeleton creatures from yesterday’s newsletter were made by necromancers experimenting with piles of bones! This is now my headcanon, and I look forward to seeing the best new “experiments” those creative bone wizards come up with this season.
If you happen to be in Japan later this month, be careful when boarding the Shinkansen train between Tokyo Station and Shin Osaka… there’s going to be a whole parade of zombies, including an undead high school sports team, zombified train employees and shambling ‘host club’ hosts bearing bottles of champagne.
The action is limited to two carriages and 60 pre-booked tickets, and lasts for two hours. I’ll be keeping an eye out for video of it, so stay tuned!
I think I’ve figured out my costume so I’ll try and start working on it this weekend… what classic Halloween movie(s) should I put on in the background while I’m crafting?
Til tomorrow,
Laura
