31 Days of Halloween: October 24

Good evening, friends,

We’ve been catching up on Halloween episodes of TV shows and I wanted to take a moment to appreciate something that’s all too rare these days: custom Halloween opening title sequences.

Of course, The Simpsons is the classic example and have been doing variations for years.

The intro title for The Simpsons, with the letters rendered in stone. The normally blue, cloudy sky is filled with stormclouds.

But I love it when a regular show does it too. Add a little warble to the soundtrack, throw in some ghosts booing and a banshee screech, and dress up the cast? Bliss.

Of the shows that 1) actually have a title sequence and 2) do a special Halloween version, I’ve probably only seen a handful. But I dig this intro from Community, and this one from Bob’s Burgers.

A paper fortune teller unfolds to read "Starring Joel McHale", with a drawing of a Dracula peering over a tombstone.

Even our favorite board game channel, No Rolls Barred, is getting in on the fun!

Outlines of figures dressed as ghosts and mummies.

These intros are the sprinkle on the sundae of Halloween eps (or the seasoning in the stew, if you want a more seasonal metaphor). If there’s one you know of (and especially one that you love) that I didn’t include here, please reply and let me know!
