[31 Days of Halloween] October 1

Kicking off year 11 of my daily October newsletter, filled with fun surprises and terrible puns!

Good evening, my little ghosties,

It’s that time of year again…the leaves are getting crunchy, the smell of apple cider is in the air, and my annual Halloween newsletter emerges from the crypt once more.

Doctor Frankenstein turns from the slab where his monster awakens and shouts, "It's alive! IT'S ALIVE!"

Yes, for the last eleven years (!), I’ve spent the entire month of October hunting down interesting links, cute art, fun music and weird stories to share with you boo-tiful people. (If you’re new, here’s the deal: I send an email every day of October, plus one bonus note on September 1st. And that’s it! When it’s over, the newsletter crawls back into its dusty tomb to slumber until the next October.)

You know, every year, I’m dead set on preparing posts in advance or at least planning out what I’ll chat about day to day. Witch-ful thinking on my part, as every year, I find myself writing each one off the cuff. Hence, they will arrive at odd times during the day, or more likely, in the evening. Ah well, such is the nature of a labor of love.

A stop-motion skeleton hand rises from glowing misty green goo and gives a thumbs up.

(On that note, while this newsletter has always been and will remain free, I did set up a ko-fi last year to help offset the cost of my time and the newsletter service, Buttondown. If anyone is interested in contributing, please do! I won’t mention this again til the end of the month.)

The shape of my life has changed a lot over the last 11 years, but this newsletter has been a very happy constant during that time, even when I’ve been bone tired (which has been often). Especially when the outside world is feeling rough, it’s been a scream come true to do something just for the pleasure of sharing things I love.

A black and white pointillism ghost floats eerliy over a cup

And so, welcome to 31 Days of Halloween. I’ll try and keep things short and sweet as candy corn. And I promise, fewer Cryptkeeper-esque puns next time (I’m sure you’re dying with laughter). I’m looking forward to spending the next month with all of you!

🎃 Do you have any special plans for the month? Hit reply and let me know.

Rabbit rabbit,
Laura

P.S. Please feel free to send me links, pictures, songs, movie and show recs, etc. as the month goes on!
