Instructions for the 1Picture1000Words contest
Hi there - thanks for wanting to participate in the 1Picture1000Words contest. We’re looking forward to reading your writing :)
Participating is rather simple; you are only writing a thousand words, after all. Entries that do not follow the exact instructions below will not be considered.
[1] Write exactly 1,000 words that connect to the photo on our site (see it again here if you’d like). Make sure to carefully read our FAQ so you know what “connect to” means. You can write anything: sci-fi, romance, nonfiction, poetry, whatever you want. Use a common software (like Google Docs, Word, Pages etc.) to count the words. Not every word counter counts the same, but if Word, Pages, or Google Docs says 1,000, you’re good.
Important: We would like you to be as creative as possible. Think outside the box. You are more likely to win the contest by being creative than you are by writing a literal or semi-literal description of the image. (Speaking of, the writing does not even have to be about dogs or from a dog’s point of view! It absolutely can. But it does not have to be.)
[2] Send your submission to [email protected]. (If you have problems typing the email, just click on it or copy it from this email.)
There are some specific rules for sending:
• Your subject line must be: 1Picture1000Words Entry
• Your entry must be the body copy of the email; no attachments, text, PDF, or links
• The body text of your entry must be exactly 1,000 words. If you decide to write a title (not required), that does not count towards the 1,000 words.
• You must send your submission from the same email address you used to sign up; i.e. the same email you are using to read this right now. Remember that you can only submit once.
[3] We’ll announce the winners in early September.
Good luck. We are looking forward to seeing your writing. Feel free to reply to this email with any questions, but before doing so, make sure it is not answered in our FAQ.
Happy writing :)
P.S. We'd like to thank Granola for being generous enough to support this contest. They're an AI notepad for people in back-to-back meetings. If that sounds interesting to you, you can check out Granola here, and if it doesn't, that's fine too :) Thanks again to Granola for supporting creative writing.
P.P.S. By participating in 1Picture1000Words you agree to our (simple) terms. You can read them here.
