Bimodal by design

Toward the end of last year we began building a new iteration of our site. A new web app with better tooling rather than solely offering PSD mockups and Framer components. We’ll certainly still be offering these products in our new version, because we don’t want to sideline our shared love of working with detailed PSDs. But we’re now addressing an emerging method of how creatives like to work with 3D models. We’re building a new in-browser mockup editor. No installs, no subscriptions, no heavyweight files. If you have a device and a connection, you can create.

We have an alpha version built already, but we need to get to the point where we essentially have a bimodal offering of our entire mockup catalog. So we need a bit more time. We’re super excited about this direction and we think you’ll love it too, whether you’re a seasoned pro or a new gen designer.

Breaking the rhythm

We said we’d publish these newsletters on a consistent cadence, but that hasn’t quite worked out. So, to hell with rhythm — we’ll just write when there’s something worth sharing. The good news: there is. We’ve added beautiful new products for both Photoshop and Framer, and it’s been great to see a surge in component sales. We’re proud of those, so it’s encouraging to see them out in the wild web. Thanks to all 099 users for the continued support.

Our aim remains the same: to reduce friction in the process of showcasing ideas. What shape that takes in the future may be uncertain, but we see it as an opportunity to keep building tools that make creativity simpler.

Fair to say we’re not exactly reaching orbital speed, but we can announce the launch of our 25th mockup product, which is available to download today. Alongside this release, we’re experimenting with a simpler pricing model — all individual mockups are now just $9, and bundles have been reduced too. If that sounds like a good deal, now’s the time to grab what you’ve had your eye on.

Prototyping the future

At 099, we’re starting to think more intentionally about where creative tools are headed. We’re in a research phase, looking at how we can make our work more accessible, reduce friction for designers, and open up new possibilities through emerging technologies like AI. It’s not just about keeping up — it’s about considering what might come next and shaping tools that feel both useful and forward-thinking. We have a few directions we’re keen to explore, and if any of them take shape, you’ll be the first to know. You’ll also have the chance to share feedback and help us validate what we’re building.

We spent the last couple of months working on various product concepts that would have both a commercial appeal and sheer aesthetic quality. Some worked, some didn’t. R&D thrives on experimentation. Some ideas are worth pursuing while others feel good to let go after realizing the complexities aren’t worth overcoming. Which is often the case when you’re doing your best to maintain a certain standard of detail as we are with 099. That said, we’re delighted to announce the release of a couple of new mockups, product bundles, and Framer web components to sharpen and elevate your projects.

It has been a long time coming, but we're back with some fresh drops of the highest quality product mockups. A few things have changed since we first introduced our inaugural batch of 10. We have decided to reduce the volume of variations. We initially offered a whopping 27 variants, but after some thought, some feedback, and to streamline our work, we have reduced the volume to 4 variations. This is still considerably more than your average mockup and includes 2 angles, 2 lighting options and a single texture (plus additional options inside the PSD file). With this change, we're hyped to ship mockups more frequently and have already begun working on our next batch.
